Chapter 4

To walk, to walk, and to walk some more when one has the impression of going in circles, is no fun. In any case not for Jack, whereas the professor has me know that he is not bored at all.
Suddenly, as they were starting to have really sore feet, they heard a voice, in the next room, that said:

starting to excavate

— “By the great god Scrachmithigh! Darned tape! They could've tightened it more, I'm stumbling at every step!”
— “ - Bo... Boss! reassure me: this... they are only rats? Yes, yes, let's be calm. They are the rats. They are only the rats, they are just the rats. But... A rat, it does not speak! What is it, boss?
— “ - the best means of knowing it is to go and see, my dear Jack. " J

They entered the room and found themselves nose to nose with... the mummy!! It was a rather small and skinny person, but it seemed terrifying with its strips which hung. Jack, terrified, wanted to jump into the arms of the professor, but this one had foreseen this: he stepped aside and the assistant it found himself on the ground, feet in the air.
 " - Boss, I'm sca...sca...scared!
  - Le... Let's keep calm. Er... Who are you Si... Sir?

nose to nose with a mummy
— “By Osiris! Visitors! said the mummy in his serious and broken voice. What do you come to do here? And bow down before the great Pharaoh Toutenkhamen! - Or at least what remains of me - he began again it with a sigh.
— “You... you were a Pharaoh? asked Jack.
— “Yes, I was Toutenkhamen. You should not be afraid of me, I will not eat you, at least if you stay quiet."

Nos two zeros did not hear it this way: Jack, terrified, took flight, followed by of the professor. But they did not go very far, because the mummy firmly held them by the bottom of the trousers.
— “Release us, you old mildewed corpse! shouted Jack.
— “Beware, if I am insulted, I can become vicious. And stay quiet, see!
— “Well, I...I... I'm your humble servant. But for pity's sake, do us no harm, Lord Touten... er... Toutenwhat, did you say? "

a terrifying mummy

The mummy told them that it often left its residence in the tomb of the kings to walk in this temple.
— “And the headless Pharaoh?” asked Jack

— “Ah, that, you must be wary of it! It walks with its head under its arm, and if it finds you, you are likely to spend a tough fifteen minutes!” confided the mummy.
— “But where is it at this moment?”
— “Bah! it must be sleeping in its coffin.”

Suddenly, they heard:
— “But where did this idiot Toutankhamen go?”
Without giving them time to say “boo”, Toutankhamen locked them up in a large sarcophagus which was lying around there.
— “Hide, and, above all, no noise!”
From their hiding place, they heard a conversation:

- — “Ah, here you are! who were you speaking with? I was awoken by voices.
- — “Voices? Heck no, sir, I... spoke all alone.
- — “Yeh, yeh! And it smells like fresh meat; that cannot come from you!
- — “YEEEEEEEHHH!!!” (Jack could not help shouting when he saw a large very hairy black widow climbing on his thigh)
- — “Ah hah! I well knew that there was somebody here!”

in danger of being eaten
And Werdiooputyerhed (it is the name of the headless mummy), undertook to excavate the part to find those which would make soon its meal. Lastly, it raised the lid of the sarcophagus:
 — “Mmmm! Two succulent mortals to be tasted out of sauce salad! It's been centuries that that hasn't happened any more!
 — “AAAAH! Isn't er... hello Sir, it a beautiful... beautiful day? said Jack, while the professor remained of marble, disappeared. The mummy without head caught them in its powerful arms, and raised them like feathers. But Toutankhamen, knowing only to make to deliver them, gave a great kick in behind of Werdiooputyerhed. Of pain, it released our heroes who benefitted from the opportunity to flee with all legs. The fear gave wings to Jack who, exceeding the professor, left like a rocket and failed to beat the record of the world of race to foot (Like what, if one installed a mummy with each Olympic departure, the records would be pulverized!)

Thus, they ran so much and so that they ended up leaving their pursuer behind. But the problem, now, was that they were lost...
