Splash 2 is a SHE!
We know for sure because she had
a baby while staying with us at San Elizario Elementary School (Elisa
is the one who discovered the baby), and we decided that it was best for
her to spend the holidays here and to travel directly to her next destination
with the baby, departing in early January for Rockland by Monday.
Baby dolphins don't need to be baptized because they are born in water. The baby's name is Splish and we are not sure whether it is a he or a she, but the majority of our class (which consists of 9 boys and 11 girls) is of the opinion that it's a she.
We found out some fascinating facts
about dolphin birth as we watched it on videotape of another dolphin (provided
by Ixtzel). Did you know that
dolphins are normally born tail first? Did you know that the newborn dolphins
have to swim before they can get their first breath of air? Did you know
that, when that proves difficult, their aunts will help them? Did you know
that dolphin twins are extremely rare, at best?
